China’s State Council Vows Support for Renovating Urban Villages

China’s cabinet Friday passed guidelines for the renovation of “urban villages” in megacities in its latest move to boost the economy.
Active and steady renovation of urban villages — neighborhoods that developed out of rural villages during the urbanization of large cities and are often homes for migrants seeking cheap rent — is an important measure to improve people's livelihood, expand domestic demand, and promote high-quality urban development, a State Council meeting chaired by Premier Li Qiang said.
